Indian stick insect hatchlings

From the video's description: My first two hatchlings. These were laid about 3 and a half months ago by my rescued Indian stick insects (they were being kept in poor conditions).

Dont worry about the small paint brush! Im not hurting them - just tiny pokes to show them moving. Since they are so small and delicate you cant handle them yet, so moving them from/to enclosures must be done by getting them to climb onto something to be transferred (like this small artists brush).

Hatched on 18/01/2011.

Mother Nature gave this bug the appearance of a leaf.

Sawfly Larvae on a eucalyptus

From the video's description: They look like caterpillars, but they are sawfly larvae on a gum tree. They are sometimes called 'spitfires' as they secrete an irritating or distasteful liquid from their mouths. Just before video-taping them, I saw a tachina fly trying to lay its eggs on the larvae. Their dance seemed to scare off the fly, although I didn't see the 'spit'.

Orchard Swallowtail Pupation

From the video's description: This is the Orchard Swallowtail caterpillar's (Papilio Aegeus) pupation process. More info can be found here: or simply google it.

This was incredibly tedius to film... I stayed up from 10:40pm and watched this caterpillar until around 12:20am JUST so I could find the right moment to start recording. Extremely boring and tiring, but was very rewarding in the end.

These look so damn similar to Metapods...
